Nick, though his landlord has said "No Pets", was really taken with the little guy, who still purred and rubbed against Nick's hand even though the most recent human he had encountered was some evil monster. Nick told the little guy that he would take care of him, and took him in to the vet for treatment and vaccinations. He then contacted rec.pets.cats, asking for help from anyone who could take in the kitten, saying he would pay all the vet bills but the landlord wouldn't let him keep Peasook and he didn't want the poor kitten to have to face a shelter after everything else he had gone through.
People from across the continent responded. All I could offer to do was put up a WWW page pleading for help for Peasook, so I did. Others offered money, homes, even a cross-country plane ticket for someone in California who wanted to adopt him but couldn't afford the transit. Several people offered to find Nick and the kitten a new home. And some made suggestions for convincing the landlord to let Nick keep Peasook where he was.
I am glad to say that I have now taken down the page asking for help. Nick took the suggestions made to his landlord, and the landlord has relented and allowed Peasook to stay ("Cool landlord of the year" nomination time!). I offered to keep some WWW pages for him, so here he is, looking much happier and relaxed than when he was first found!
